WHAT'S IN MY CARRY-ON

In Brandi's Carry-on:
Reading Material (and yes, I buy books at the airport)
// The Perks of being a Wallflower MUST READ! Loved it!
// Bossy Pants
// Cooler and Foam Magazine

Bottled Water
// Since we have to buy water after security, I usually just go for the cheapest bottle.

Snack
// Morning Kick it has wasabi peas and coffee beans

Lippies
// Jack Black Lip Balm
// Lipstick so when I get off the flight I have some color on my face.

Gadgets
// ipad and Ipad Bag
// ipod - my friend Russel told me to listen to Clocks as I was about to land and, so I did. It was kinda perfect... but my all time favorite song to listen to on a plane is Halycon On and On from Hackers. I saw this movie when I was 14 and this song always got me. I would close my eyes and imagine I was sitting next to Johnny Lee Miller.

Comfort
// Sweater - because I get cold then hot then cold again, and you can always bunch it up and hug it
// My Neck Pillow - They really do make a difference and they keep you from losing your chin.

Hair
// Dry Shampoo- to refresh my airplane greasy head.

What do you travel with?

THE PHOTO STASH: NYC 2012

DSC_0024roughedit

Whenever I leave Houston, I have a camera around my neck at all times and the hunt is on. Yeah, I keep an eye out for some stylish folks here and there, but mostly I'm breaking the location down by rhythm, colors, lines, type, textures, etc. I need a lot of time alone just to observe, soak up, process and document my surroundings. When i get to a 'cool' part of town, I like to figure out why it's considered cool. The same goes for trashy, nice, hipster, rich (and so on) parts of towns.

A few months ago, I went to NYC with Roots The Salon and was on inspiration overload. I've been to NY a bunch since graduating high school, but I never have the same experience. I usually have a pretty tight schedule when I go and try to cram in everyone I know into the few days I have. This time I had plans fall through more than once, which gave me and the city some necessary time alone.

I always see people with cameras in their hands and wonder what their film/memory cards are full of, so that's why I'm sharing this post with you. These are the photos I take and store on my hard drive for inspiration. No one ever gets to see these because there's not much of anything going on. Not a beautiful, lanky goddess wearing the latest trends, or photos of me standing in front of notable NY things... just what is. I really enjoy type. Ugly type, pretty type, trends type, right down to handwriting. It's such a neat form of communication. With just a few lines, a mood is created. Pretty neat.

Anyway, I'll get on with the visuals...

Do you have a hidden stash of travel photos that don't get seen? If so, what are you photographing and why?

AROUND OUR TOWN: URBAN MARKET HOUSTON

IMG_9231
On Sunday, Brandi, John Korey and I headed up to the Bayou City Event Center for Urban Market Houston. We were kind of doubling up on work and play, since I needed to meet up with Cheryl and Paul from Stash Co. for The Pinpoint Method. The first set of photos were taken at the Stash Co. booth. All the purses you see were handmade by Cheryl Schulke and the entire booth was designed and constructed by her husband, Paul Forde out of wood taken from a torn down bridge. Pretty neat duo, eh? Check The Pinpoint Method in June for the full feature and interview with the Stash Co  creator and team (it's a family matter).

(See the rug in the bottom right hand corner? Yup had to have it. -B)

Too many goodies to choose from...  Brandi, John Korey and I all picked out a bag from this section for all of our out of town trips that are coming up (both for the Pinpoint Method and for fun).

Stash co had everything from clutched to overnight bags. She also has guitar straps made out of old mail bags and leather camera straps.

Oh my God it took forever to decide what our first Stash bag would be. We tried them all on.

Brandi ordered this one for her Costa Rica trip. I just love the canvas and vintage materials she used.

I was going through the swatches trying to decide on leather for a while.

(Fake Caption) Kelly is thinking "I hope I can hold this toot in but I think it's slowly slipping out." -B

I can't possibly say enough kind words about the work and people behind it. Beautiful, handmade products by the best of folks.

Everything else at Urban Market that we wanted...

Brandi Got 3 coffee bags, so far one is for a door mat (see her instagram LisenbeSquared) the second is for a kitchen rug below the oven and the third one well we don't know yet

We were already dying from the heat and it's only May! I wanted this table and chairs for my new apartment!

We've been hearing rumors that the Astrodome will be auctioning off their seating... We've got to be there for that! Our friend Rannie has some of these bad boys. When Brandi was in New York visiting Rannie, a couple years back, they had to carry them blocks to her apartment. It's times like this we are glad Houston is a drive 'friendly' city.
