THE PHOTO STASH: NYC 2012

DSC_0024roughedit

Whenever I leave Houston, I have a camera around my neck at all times and the hunt is on. Yeah, I keep an eye out for some stylish folks here and there, but mostly I'm breaking the location down by rhythm, colors, lines, type, textures, etc. I need a lot of time alone just to observe, soak up, process and document my surroundings. When i get to a 'cool' part of town, I like to figure out why it's considered cool. The same goes for trashy, nice, hipster, rich (and so on) parts of towns.

A few months ago, I went to NYC with Roots The Salon and was on inspiration overload. I've been to NY a bunch since graduating high school, but I never have the same experience. I usually have a pretty tight schedule when I go and try to cram in everyone I know into the few days I have. This time I had plans fall through more than once, which gave me and the city some necessary time alone.

I always see people with cameras in their hands and wonder what their film/memory cards are full of, so that's why I'm sharing this post with you. These are the photos I take and store on my hard drive for inspiration. No one ever gets to see these because there's not much of anything going on. Not a beautiful, lanky goddess wearing the latest trends, or photos of me standing in front of notable NY things... just what is. I really enjoy type. Ugly type, pretty type, trends type, right down to handwriting. It's such a neat form of communication. With just a few lines, a mood is created. Pretty neat.

Anyway, I'll get on with the visuals...

AROUND (Y)OUR TOWN: A TOUR OF BUMBLE & BUMBLE (NYC)

DSC_9994roughedit
I was recently in NY with the salon I work for, Roots, for IBS (International Beauty Show). I took the extra time I had to wander around between Brooklyn and Manhattan, try on lots of clothes that are way out of my budget, eat lots of delicious food, visit friends and meet up with a few designers here and there for The Pinpoint Method. When I wasn't on my own watch, I was going on salon related adventures like touring the Bumble & bumble University. It was AMAZING! As soon as the elevator doors opened, I was in ultra tourist mode just snapping photos. Their branding is brilliant and carried throughout the Bumble building beautifully. If you are ever in New York and are a business owner, future business owner, creative, or just someone who appreciates art/design, you must tour Bumble & bumble. You will leave inspired.

Here a tiny peek...

Not shown, but they do have a private room for the rich and famous. Also, they had TVs above the shampoo bowls playing styling instructional videos. Smart.
