AROUND OUR TOWN /// Warrenton

Blue bonnets

This past Friday, Brandi Joined me and the Stash family out at Warrenton to go treasure hunting. The day started at 6 am and I didn't pull up in my drive way until about 10 pm. Stash was on the hunt for unique building materials, Justin was looking for weapons, Brandi was looking for hides for two chairs in her living room and I was just looking for home inspiration. We all hit the jackpot.

On the drive out there we listened to a binder of Brandi's cds from her high school/my middle school days (90s). We just found this binder about a week ago in our Mom's garage. Oh man, what a treasure. About halfway through the Third Eye Blind album, I remembered we would be passing fields of Bluebonnets and every time I pass bluebonnets, I see folks out there taking family photos, so I told Brandi we HAVE to stop. Poor Justin was with us and didn't stand a chance. We found a nice patch of bonnets pulled over and then this happened...

The day ended up being one of my favorite Fridays in a long time. I love the people I was with and the adventure of the treasure hunt. Here are some of our Warrenton finds (click here to see Justin's find, and here to catch a sneak peek at the Stash finds).

Then there was this huge find. I've been sleeping on a twin bed for God knows how long (I gave our little sister my full size bed a while back) and since getting the new house, I've been dreaming of a queen size bed. Never owned one before. While out in Warrenton, I was keeping an eye out for a cool frame or headboard, but strictly for inspiration. Well, just before we left, Justin and Brandi told me they saw something I needed to look at. It wasn't a 'headboard', but it could be. It was an old gate. We ended up walking right past it at the end of the day so I had to check it out. Long story short, none of my excuses for not taking it were out argued and we (and by we I mean Justin carried it all the way out to Cheryl and Paul's truck) walked off with it. While chatting with the man who previously owned this gate, we noticed he had an unusual buffalo tattoo on his forearm and Cheryl commented on it. He said his name was Buffalo Steve and he raised buffalo to set them free. Oh, and he also sells buffalo poop online at buffalopoop.com  in case you are ever in need. The whole buffalo thing was such a coincidence on so many levels... but that's another story for another day (buffalos are kind of 'my jam', spirit animal, whatever you want to call it). I can't want to buy a mattress now!

GREETINGS FROM: Nicaragua

Just in case you didn't know, Brandi headed south for surf camp with Rannie and Cookie. She's having such a blast, she wanted me to help share some of her daily routines this week.

Saturday
We flew in then took a three hour ride to camp. We had a quick orientation, got settled in our rooms, met the other two girls and instructors then took a tour around the beautiful town of San Juan Del Sur. Our friend Cookie (also from Houston,Texas) is living here for a month, so she came over and met up with us. For dinner, all of us, including cookie and jen, ate at a place called the Chicken Lady. Delish!

Sunday
Went to get coffee at el barrio and walked on the beach.
Breakfast
Surf
Found Jesus Statue with the most amazing view of San Juan del sur and Costa Rica!
On the way to dinner at el barrio cafe Justin Bobby walked right past us! Haha.
El Barrio is Nica owned and super friendly. We split ceviche, had a couple glasses of wine, and I ordered grilled salmon. It was perfection. Every night that we have been here we have tried to get gelato at super frutto but it has been closed so we've been going to Eskimo (kind of like DQ)

Monday
Breakfast pancakes and fruit
Yoga
Surf a surfboard fell on my head during load out.
Cookie and Jen joined us for dinner at El Timon dinner on the beach with the rest of the group. Then we went to a burger joint called Nacho Libre bc Cookie was still hungry. We tried her cous cous burger (she's vegan) and it blew our minds.
Got that damn ice cream again! There goes my no sugar streak.

Tuesday
Rannie and I walked around town, got coffee at el gato negro
Breakfast for champs: eggs, beans, toast and fruit
Hang out around town, shop, and  play with the gopro,
Surfs up! There was 6 of us surfing today because of the day camp. Longest day we've surfed yet.
My knees are bruised so bad they look like giant apples, but I don't care I'm so happy!
For dinner everybody wanted Nacho Libre! I ordered a burger called the "big wang!" It was the best thing I've ever sunk my teeth into. After that we were so wiped out... Lara and I bought a bottle of wine and played Spanish monopoly and had really good conversation until our eyelids couldn't stay open any longer. As soon as I put my head down Jacob face timed me!!! It was so good! I miss him so much, I even face timed Bootsie! Hahaha Kelly Welly I miss you too!!! Tell mom and dad I'm alive and loving life!

Wednesday
We are starting the day to go get breakfast and then spending 5 hours horseback riding!!! I am so stoked!!!

Since I have the opportunity to check in with you, is there anything you would want to see more of (if you've been following on IG @lisenbesquared) or want specific information on?

WHAT'S IN MY CARRY-ON

In Brandi's Carry-on:
Reading Material (and yes, I buy books at the airport)
// The Perks of being a Wallflower MUST READ! Loved it!
// Bossy Pants
// Cooler and Foam Magazine

Bottled Water
// Since we have to buy water after security, I usually just go for the cheapest bottle.

Snack
// Morning Kick it has wasabi peas and coffee beans

Lippies
// Jack Black Lip Balm
// Lipstick so when I get off the flight I have some color on my face.

Gadgets
// ipad and Ipad Bag
// ipod - my friend Russel told me to listen to Clocks as I was about to land and, so I did. It was kinda perfect... but my all time favorite song to listen to on a plane is Halycon On and On from Hackers. I saw this movie when I was 14 and this song always got me. I would close my eyes and imagine I was sitting next to Johnny Lee Miller.

Comfort
// Sweater - because I get cold then hot then cold again, and you can always bunch it up and hug it
// My Neck Pillow - They really do make a difference and they keep you from losing your chin.

Hair
// Dry Shampoo- to refresh my airplane greasy head.

What do you travel with?
